Otamatone
A note that sings through its face.
This white electronic instrument looks like a musical note with a mouth. Slide a finger up its stem and squeeze its cheeks to make the pitch wobble.
WSS FIELD NOTES
So, what is this thing?
The everyday job, the odd idea behind it, and the sort of person who’ll love having one.
How does it work?
Slide a finger along the stem to change pitch, then squeeze the cheeks to alter the sound. The instrument needs three AAA batteries, which the listing says are not included.
Why did it make the cut?
It takes the drawn symbol for music and makes that symbol do the singing. The face is not just decoration; touching it changes what you hear.
Who’s going to love it?
Playful musicians, curious beginners, and people who would rather make a melody by pinching a face than pressing a key.
